About

Serendipity Equine strives to develop Educational and Equine-Assisted Learning programs and to meet a growing need for rescue and rehabilitation services, which partners youth and their families, veterans, first-responders and their families with rehabilitated equines. To create programs in which each participant and horse will be treated as an individual and they themselves will determine how quickly or slowly their training takes place. Serendipity’s goal is to provide these programs to the community at large regardless of social or economic standing and create an inclusive community equestrian center where integration, not segregation, of individuals at-risk or those with disabilities is the rule.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in beautiful Amissville, VA.

Our Commitment

Serendipity strives to be involved in community education and awareness and create a program designed to:

  • Provide a wide range of equine activities, mounted and unmounted, according to the standards  set by Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) and to offer those services to economically disadvantaged individuals
  • Offer those services to economically disadvantaged individuals
  • Provide disabled individuals exercise therapy to relax tight muscles, increase range of motion, improve stability and balance, and to enhance emotional connectivity with the participant and his/her environment on the back of a horse
  • Increase capacity for empathy, self esteem, social interaction and other interpersonal behaviors in children with emotional disorders, truancy, aggressive behavior and social maladjustment
  • Cooperate with other professionals and rescues in an effort to provide pamphlets, literature, and training regarding equine needs and standards for appropriate care and owner responsibility
  • Network with key individuals to better define and enforce policies and procedures regarding equine abuse/neglect as it relates to state statutes on animal cruelty
  • Restore respectful horsemanship, humane treatment, and the heritage of the horse
  • Give the horses the best quality care while they are with us
  • Empower our volunteers by training them and educating them about horse psychology and behavior and proper horse handling
  • Follow the philosophy, principles, and techniques of various “natural horsemanship” practitioners with the horses that come through the program. We believe it is the best way to become a better horse person and establish trust, leadership, and respect with our four-legged friends in a way that they understand
  • Mentor children and youth through the world of horses
  • Enrich the lives of individuals, children, youth, families, and groups through our programs
  • Educate communities about horses, horse rescue, horsemanship, and the proper care and treatment of horses
